28 Apr Fairtrade and the coronavirus
The Fairtrade Foundation has provided this information about Fairtrade during the coronavirus:-
1. Farmers and workers have been receiving advice and support through their local Fairtrade Producer Network. These Networks operate in Africa, Latin America and Asia, and each body is working hard to understand how the COVID-19 pandemic will affect farmers and workers in their region.
2. During Fairtrade Fortnight we heard about some of the big challenges cocoa farmers face everyday, and COVID-19 threatens to make these even worse. Thankfully lots of companies are committing to backing cocoa farmers through Fairtrade, so where possible please continue to choose Fairtrade chocolate.
Divine Chocolate has been giving their excellent eggs away, as well-deserved treats to NHS workers.
3. Fairtrade International have made immediate changes to the Fairtrade Standards, giving farmers and workers more flexibility to use their Fairtrade Premium payments to protect against COVID-19.
4. Learning about Fairtrade at home
The closure of schools has disrupted the lives of children and their families across the UK.
But our Education Team has a brilliant new range of Home Learning resources give families a fun way to keep learning through Fairtrade.
Check out the Fairtrade Schools website for more details, and please spread the word to anyone else with children stuck at home at the moment.
