01 Sep Keswick Agricultural Show & New Committee Members sought …
At the Keswick Agricultural Show a large Fairtrade banana was to be
seen walking round in the crowd. It was Anne Baird in the banana suit. She was greeted with smiles from adults and giggles from children and, we trust, a reminder to all to buy Fairtrade bananas and other products. We gave leaflets to those who were most interested: they described the help that Fairtrade is giving to farmers. I have written to tell you about this, but to remind you, the help includes training in environmentally friendly practices, the provision of biogas stoves and help in switching to other green energy fuels. There were a few people to whom we gave our campaign leaflets and they may well join us. We are fortunate in having 85 members of the campaign but we are always happy when people show their support for Fairtrade by joining us.We would, however, like to have another one or two people on the Committee. Anne Davies has resigned and Bernadette is planning to move away from Keswick: that leaves just three of us; Anne Baird, Tom Rennie and myself. So, if you would be prepared to join us, we would welcome you with
open arms. We meet about once a month. Please give some thought to this request.
Best wishes,
Jo Alberti
