They have been selling Fairtrade licensed products since 1994. In 2014/15 their Fairtrade sales increased to £293 million. Sainsbury’s sell an incredible 650 million Fairtrade bananas a year, almost as many as all of the other major supermarkets put together. That’s enough bananas to go round the world 3 times! These bananas generate a Fairtrade Premium of over £4m which farming communities in Dominican Republic, Colombia, St. Lucia and Ghana invest in a better future.In addition to bananas, Sainsbury’s also stock FairTrade cut flowers, wines, coffee and some teas.
